Memorial planned for police K9

Memorial will take place March 31 at City Hall

WICHITA, Kan. - A memorial will be held Friday March 31 for a Wichita Police K9 who died in the line of duty Saturday.

Rooster and his handler had responded to a domestic violence incident in the 2300 block of East MacArthur.  Wichita Police say they believe he was shot by the suspect while trying to prevent him from retreating back into a mobile home.

Rooster is the first Wichita Police K9 to die in the line of duty.  The memorial will take place from 1 to 1:30 p.m. inside the city council chambers of the first floor of City Hall.

The public and first responders are invited to attend the service.
