Shigellosis hits Sedgwick Co. daycare

WICHITA, Kan. -
A daycare in Sedgwick County says it's seen 16 cases of shigellosis since the start of the year. Last year, the county only reported 23 cases total, 
 
The county health department says the best way to prevent shigella infection, or shigellosis, is to practice good hand-washing techniques. Our news partners at KWCH report shigellosis can cause a fever and diarrhea.
 
The MAYO CLINIC says the infection can spread by eating contaminated food or swimming in contaminated water.
