Wichita to expand Q-line trolley service

Wichita Transit has announced an expanded route and expanded hours for its free Q-Line trolley service.

Wichita Transit director Mike Tann and vice-mayor Bryan Frye announced the changes Monday in a news conference at Douglas and Oliver.  Tann said the Q-line will expand west to Seneca into the Delano neighborhood.  The lunchtime trolley will now operate from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Douglas from Seneca to Hydraulic.

There will also be weeknight service from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Seneca to Hydraulic.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the Q-Line will run along Douglas from Seneca to Edgemoor, and it will run from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday nights, and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays.

The new service begins December 15th.

Tann said there has been an increase of 35 percent in ridership on the Q-Line in the past year.   He said the expansion into east Wichita on weekends will reach an additional 5,000 people and allow people in the Brookside, Crown Heights and College Hill neighborhoods to ride into the downtown area and into Delano.
