One dead following southwest Missouri tornado

One person has died after a tornado touched down in southwest Missouri.

Our sister station KTTS in Springfield reports the EF-1 tornado touched down in the town of Aurora Saturday morning.  It reportedly a quarter-mile wide, with wind speeds up to 100 mph as it traveled along the US-60 corridor.

The death happened at the Aurora City Motel, but the identity of the victim and the circumstances of their death have not been released.  No other injuries were reported.

A second tornado, measured as an EF-0 touched down near the town of Monnett.  It was on the ground for less than a tenth of a mile and was reportedly around 50 yards wide.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.  Thousands of customers in southwest Missouri were without power as storms moved through the area Friday through Saturday.
