A Wichita man has been given a Hard 50 sentence for the stabbing death of his wife earlier this year.
31-year-old Donnell Stafford will serve 50 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. He was found guilty in October of first degree murder and two counts of cruelty to animals. Stafford was given one year on each cruelty charge and that will run concurrently with the life sentence.
On April 8th, the body of 37-year-old Leuh Moore was found in a dumpster behind a liquor store in the 1700 block of South Seneca. She had been stabbed in the neck. Two pit bulls had also been stabbed at her home in the 1100 block of West Dayton. Stafford was arrested two days later in Davenport, Iowa when an Iowa state trooper spotted a car with a license tag stolen from Wichita.
Moore’s seven-year-old son was found safe at a relative’s house, and police said the boy was home when his mother was killed. Police said the couple had a history of domestic violence.
