AAA of Kansas wants to remind people that New Year’s Eve ranks among the year’s deadliest days for alcohol-related traffic deaths. Last year, 40 percent of the fatality crashes were alcohol related on New Year’s Eve.

AAA of Kansas offers these tips if you are hosting a party or if you will be out celebrating:

• Ask your guests to choose a designated driver
• Serve high protein foods such as meats and cheeses, and minimize the salt intake
• Arrange a cab or ride share service and encourage carpooling.
• Plan ahead and designate a non-drinking driver for the evening.
• Never get behind the wheel if you have been drinking and don’t ride with anyone who has been drinking.
• Don’t hesitate to take the keys away from someone who is impaired, and call for a taxi or a ride service to get someone home.
