South Wichita standoff ends peacefully

A standoff at a home near 31st and Davidson in south Wichita ended peacefully Sunday night.

Police were called to the report of someone breaking into a home in the 4000 block of East Steerman, around 8:20 p.m.  When they arrived, they contacted a 58-year-old woman who reported that her 26-year-old son had broken into her home.

The woman told officers that she had a protection from abuse order against her son.  The SWAT team was called to the home after the man refused to come out.

More attempts were made to try to get the man to surrender, but he refused.  The SWAT team eventually entered the home and took the 26-year-old man into custody.

He’s been booked into jail for violating the protection from abuse order, trespassing, criminal damage to property, and for an outstanding warrant.  Police identified the man, but KFDI News is withhold his name until he is formally charged.
