Five candidates to be considered for vacant seat on the Wichita city council

The Wichita city council will have five candidates to choose from when they fill a vacant council seat next week.

There were seven candidates who submitted valid petitions for the District II seat.   The District II advisory board interviewed the candidates in December and five will advance to next Tuesday’s council meeting for consideration.

The five candidates are David Babich, Marcey Gregory, Daniel Rutherford, Charles Schmidt and Becky Tuttle.

A majority council vote will decide who will fill the seat on an interim basis until the November 5th, 2019 election.

The seat is now held by Pete Meitzner, who was elected to the District 1 seat on the Sedgwick County Commission.  By ordinance, Meitzner will not participate in the selection process for the city council vacancy.
