Wichita man gets over 47 years in prison for human trafficking

A Wichita man has been sentenced to 47 and a half years in prison for human trafficking.  33-year-old Christopher Reed was convicted in December of 19 crimes, including rape, kidnapping, human trafficking and commercial exploitation of a child.

Prosecutors said Reed started a business that used social media to sell drugs and to sell underage girls and women for prostitution.   Evidence in the trial showed that Reed used a vacant apartment in a building that he owned to post photos of teenage runaways online and to force them to work in prostitution.   The youngest identified victim was 17.   Reed was on parole for voluntary manslaughter at the time that he was running the trafficking scheme.

Detectives from the Exploited and Missing Child Unit and the Sex Crimes Division of the Wichita Police Department worked together to bring several cases against Reed from late 2016 to August of 2017.
