WSU announces winner of Linwood Sexton Scholarship

A high school senior from northeast Kansas is the winner of the annual Linwood Sexton Scholarship at Wichita State University.

Bryant Lewis, a senior at Olathe East High School, will get a full four-year scholarship, and he plans to major in business management when he begins classes at WSU next fall.  Lewis said he has been making plans to go to college since 8th grade, and he called Wichita State his dream college.

Lewis has been enrolled in a rigorous college prep program at his high school.

The scholarship is named for Linwood Sexton, who played halfback for the Shocker football team from 1944 to 1948 and is a member of the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.  He later worked as a teacher and as a businessman, and he worked to promote the university.  He was also involved in efforts to promote equal opportunity and social justice.  He died in 2017 at the age of 90.
