Clearwater to add paid workers to keep EMS department open

The City of Clearwater plans to add full-time paid workers to keep its Emergency Medical Services Department up and running.

The city has had trouble keeping its volunteer EMS department staffed, and they received a warning from the state in 2017 regarding departments staffing guidelines.

To keep the Clearwater EMS station open, the city will add three full-time, paid paramedics to work with the volunteers.

The paramedics will cost the city about $350,000 per year, but that’s cheaper than the $500,000 it would cost to hand over service to Sedgwick County.
