McConnell Air Force Base has taken delivery of two new KC-46 Pegasus aircraft.

The aircraft will serve along the KC-135s stationed at the base, but is more than a refueling aircraft.  The Pegasus can take on multiple roles, including medical evacuation, cargo delivery and other features, some of which are classified.

Crews from McConnell flew the planes from Boeing in Seattle to Wichita Friday.  The planes arrived shortly after 2 p.m. were a ceremony was held to mark the arrival of the “first of its kind” aircraft.

Two more Pegasus will be delivered to Boeing, followed by deliveries to Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma.  Afterwards, new KC-46 aircraft should arrive at the base every two weeks until delivery is completed.

The fuselage of the KC-46 was constructed at Spirit in Wichita and the plane was finished at Boeing in Seattle.
