Sedgwick County commissioners will be asked Wednesday to consider $6 million in funding for improvements to the Sedgwick County Zoo.
The Zoo is looking to construct a new entry complex, replacing the current entrance that is nearly 50 years old. The funding would also provide half of the cost of a new administration building.
The projects are the first phase of a 25-year master plan that was completed last year. The first phase also includes an expanded gift shop, an electric train to transport visitors around the zoo, and improvements to the Amur Leopard Habitat.
The Sedgwick County Zoological Society will conduct fund-raising campaigns to cover most of the phase one improvements.
