United Way of the Plains is holding their annual point-in-time homeless count in Wichita Thursday, January 31.

In the past, the count was held along with a service event somewhere like Century II, but that event ended last year. Instead of trying to get people who are homeless to come to a certain spot in the city, volunteers from United Way will head out to shelters and to the streets to gather info.

Delane Butler with United Way said the surveys will be compiled, analyzed, and checked for duplicate responses. He said that can be tricky, since the surveys do not ask for names. Butler said the information gathered in the count will be used to help homeless services in the long term.
