US Attorney: Pharmacist and her husband stole over 21,000 hydrocodone pills

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has indicted a Salina pharmacist and her husband for stealing controlled prescription drugs.

28-year-old Kirsty C. Hartley and her husband Dalton R. Hartley, are charged with one count of conspiring to distribute and dispense controlled substances and one count of obtaining controlled substances by fraud.  Kristy Hartley is charged with one count of unlawfully distributing and dispensing controlled substances.

The Kansas Board of Pharmacy has already suspended Hartley’s license, on September 23 of 2017.  The alleged crimes took place while she worked as the pharmacist in charge at a CVS pharmacy in Salina.

Hartley is accused of creating fake prescriptions for herself and her husband and filling them.  They allegedly obtained 21,289 tablets of Hydrocodone with acetaminophen and 360 tablets of alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax which is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

The alleged crimes were discovered by a loss prevention manager for CVS who reported the issue to the Salina Police Department.  The case was investigated by Salina Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The first two counts carry maximum penalties of 20 years in prison and a fine up to $1 million.  The third count can carry a penalty of up to four years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.
