Merger will create new company to manage INTRUST Bank Arena, other venues

The company that manages the INTRUST Bank Arena and The Orpheum theater in Wichita has merged with a Los Angeles management firm.

SMG has announced a merger with AEG Facilities of Los Angeles, creating a new management company that will operate as ASM Global.   The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Wes Westley, chief executive officer and president of SMG, said in a press release that the merger “is a major step for our industry,” and he said the new company will work to deliver more capabilities to municipalities and venue owners around the world.  Westley will join the ASM board of directors and the merger transaction is expected to be completed later this year pending regulatory approvals.

In addition to The Orpheum and INTRUST Bank Arena, the new company will also be managing the BOK Center in Tulsa, Soldier Field in Chicago and the Superdome in New Orleans.
