National Weather Service invites you to learn about storm spotting

A storm chasing convention is being held in Wichita this weekend. Chaser-Con gathers professional storm chasers who help meteorologists get a better idea of what storms look like outside of radar.

If you’re interested in storm spotting, the National Weather Service is holding “Storm Fury on the Plains” presentations over the next few months. You can learn about different kinds of storms, how to recognize features of storms, and how to report hazardous weather.

The first Storm Fury on the Plains presentation will be held Monday, Feb. 11 at the Salina South High School in Salina. Other events will be held closer to Wichita, including presentations in Kingman and in Hutchinson Feb. 19 and 20.

The NWS will hold a Storm Fury on the Plains presentation in Wichita March 5 at Central Community Church (6100 W Maple).

The presentations are free and open to anyone who has an interest in weather. Click here to find out more and check out the full schedule of presentations.
