Winter weather moving through Kansas

UPDATE:  A winter weather advisory has been issued for central, south central and southeast areas of Kansas ahead of a storm that will bring up to 5 or 6 inches of snow to some areas of the state.  The advisory will be in effect from noon Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday,.

Some snow was reported in western areas of Kansas on Monday.  The storm is expected to move through the state on Tuesday, and the National Weather Service expects up to 4 or 5-inches of total accumulation, with locally heavier amounts possible northeast of Wichita.  Parts of southeast Kansas are expected to see lighter snowfall but more freezing rain.

After Tuesday’s snow, the next chance for winter weather in the Wichita area is this weekend. We may see rain and freezing drizzle Friday night into Saturday, but the National Weather Service says there is a lot of uncertainty with that system, so the forecast may change.
