Benefit concert to help Wichita Police officer with cancer

The Wichita Police Department and the Honore Adversis group are holding a benefit concert this weekend for an officer recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

The Matt Young benefit concert will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 3 at Abode Venue (1330 E Douglas). The headliner band will be “Crossfire,” a band made up entirely of law enforcement officers from Sedgwick County.

The Wichita Wagonmasters and Cargill are partnering to sell hamburgers, hot dogs and chips, and a live raffle will be held. One of the top raffle prizes will be a ride-along and lunch with Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay, and other prizes include a bomb squad demonstration, basketball tickets, and firearms. Police say around $30,000 worth of merchandise will be auctioned.

The event is open to the public. Police say it’s an opportunity to not only support Ofc. Young and his family, but also to meet and interact with your local police.
