One of four people charged in the murders of a Wichita couple has pleaded guilty in Barton County to two counts of first degree murder.   Michael Fowler of Sarasota, Florida entered a plea agreement Monday.

Fowler and three others have been charged in Kansas in the July, 2018 murders of Alfred “Sonny” Carpenter and his wife Pauline, who disappeared after working as vendors at the Barton County Fair.  Their bodies were later found in a shallow grave near Van Buren, Arkansas.

As part of the plea agreement, Fowler pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder and one count of theft.   The Kansas attorney general’s office agreed to drop a count of capital murder in the case.

The other suspects, Kimberly Younger, Rusty Fraiser, and Christine Tenney, are also charged in the case.
