(WICHITA, Kan.) A federal grand jury in Wichita has returned guilty verdicts against a woman originally from Russia in the kidnapping of her child, and for extorting the child’s father.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wichita says 38-year-old Bogdana Alexandrovna Mobley was found guilty of one count of international parental kidnapping and two counts of attempting to extort money from the child’s father.  She was accused of taking the child from Wichita to Russia in April of 2014, despite the fact that the child’s father, Brian Mobley, had been granted joint custody in Sedgwick County District Court, pending their divorce case.

Between the time she took the child and November of 2016, she only allowed Mobley to communicate with his child through cell phones or Skype.  She told Mobley that in order to see his child, he needed to send her money.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 20.  She faces up to 3 years in federal prison on the kidnapping charge, and up to 20 years in federal prison on the extortion convictions.
