Wichita police are stepping up DUI patrols over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

With the holiday on a Sunday, more drinking is expected Saturday, and police officers will be out starting at 10 p.m.

You’re encouraged to plan ahead if you’ll be drinking, and prepare to use a designated driver or ride-sharing service.

Money for the extra patrols comes from a state grant, so it’s costing the Wichita Police Department anything extra.

The police department says a first DUI can lead to a $1000 fine and suspended license. A case involving a DUI could cost you $10,000 or more.
