A Wichita firm has won a $10.4 million contract to build a new Student-Athlete Success Center at Wichita State University.

Officials with Wichita State, the WSU Foundation and WSU Athletics chose Hutton Construction, one of six firms that submitted bids for the project.    The university has raised $13.8 million in private funds for the construction, and the funds in excess of the $10.4 million contract will be used for other costs, such as architectural design, interior design and equipment.

The project will build a 36,000 square-foot facility just south of Koch Arena, and it will provide study and tutoring spaces for students in WSU sports programs.  The project also includes renovations for administrative offices at Koch Arena to create more space for the men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball programs.

Groundbreaking is expected in June, and the project will be completed in June of 2020.

This is Hutton’s first construction job on the WSU campus.  The company recently worked on the B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center in west Wichita and restoration work for Union Station downtown.
