It took a Reno County jury less than 45 minutes to find a man guilty in the August 2015 killing of Jose Morales in Hutchinson.
Brennan R. Trass was found guilty of first-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. He was accused of shooting Morales during a drug deal.
Trass ultimately ended up defending himself at trial, which was delayed over the course of 3 and a half years. He was appointed defense attorneys 12 times during the pretrial process, according to District Attorney Keith Schroeder’s office.
During trial, it was revealed that Trass had gone to Morales residence to buy drugs, and during that transaction, he shot Morales in the back, severing his spinal cord. Sentencing is scheduled for May 10.
