Exploration Place president announces retirement

Exploration Place president Jan Luth has announced her retirement after nine years with the Wichita museum and 35 years in the museum and science center industry.

Luth is credited with growth, outreach programming, record attendance and revenue numbers and strong community partnerships as the museum heads into its 20th year.  Exploration Place board chair Dan Hamel said in a news release that Luth has helped put the museum on the road to success in all aspects.

Luth was quoted in the press release as saying that Exploration Place has been fortunate to gain the trust and support of the Wichita and Sedgwick County community.  She said the community, staff, the board of trustees and the leadership team all shared the vision of becoming a leader in STEM education.   Luth told KFDI News that she and her husband plan to do some traveling, and she wanted to step down later this year to allow a new leader to guide Exploration Place into its 20th anniversary year in 2020.     She called it a bittersweet decision because she loves working at the museum but she is excited about the next phase of her life.

Luth’s last day will be October 4th.  A recruiting firm will be hired to begin a national search for the next president.
