Star Spangled Salute: 75 Years Later, A Kansas Marine Is Finally Home

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors World War II Marine Nicholas Gojmerac.  Last month we honored Nicholas and his story of heroism with a Star Spangled Salute.  That story told of how he fought through a wall of gun fired to provide medical aid and save a fellow soldier, an act of courage that led to him to be listed as MIA and finally listed as Killed In Action.  Yesterday, after a long search to find his remains, Nicholas returned home and generations of his family were there to give him a heroes welcome. His niece Judy Wolfe said, “It’s a closure, but it’s also a happy moment.  He was born in Kansas, he lived in Kansas, and now he’s here in Kansas with his family where he belongs.”  Welcome home Nicholas and thank you for your service and sacrifice.
