UPDATE 8 A.M. FRIDAY

Power has now been restored in the city of Mulvane after a crash caused a city-wide outage early Friday morning.

Police say the driver of the car that hit a power pole and caused the outage was able to walk home and get a ride to the hospital.

ORIGINAL STORY

Mulvane Public Schools have canceled class Friday because of a city-wide power outage.

Police said a car crashed near 103rd St and S Rock Rd early Friday morning and damaged a main power line. No injuries have been reported.

A spokesperson for Westar Energy said the City of Mulvane owns the breaker that “unsuccessfully re-closed” after the crash. City crews and Westar troubleshooters were out trying to fix the problem.

So far, crews do not have an estimate on when power may be restored. Westar serves 2,603 customers in Mulvane.

Director of Operations for Mulvane USD 263, Brad Canfield, said school is closed Friday, April 12 due to the outage. Canfield said the school does not have “phones or anything at this point.”

Canfield said the district will provide more information when they can. At this point, afternoon athletic activities are also canceled. Coaches and sponsors plan to contact participants in Mulvane High School athletics later Friday with any updates.
