A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a Wichita man to 71 years in prison for trying to kill another man on three different occasions.

31-year-old Tremain Shears was sentenced to 852 months in prison.  A jury convicted him last summer of nine felonies including attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery.

Prosecutors said Shears shot at Marcqual Hightower three times, in April, July and September of 2016.   In the July incident, Hightower was outside his grandmother’s home in Wichita when over a dozen shots were fired at the house, but no one was hit.   A motive for the attacks was never revealed in court.

Shears was on trial last July and at the end of the trial, he had his GPS monitoring bracelet removed and then fled to Oklahoma.   The next day, a jury found Shears guilty and U.S. Marshals arrested him a few days later in Oklahoma City.
