Former Wichita police officer pleads guilty in federal gambling case

A former Wichita police officer has admitted that he did not report illegal poker games in the city in 2014.

51-year-old Michael Zajkowski pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of concealing a felony, admitting that he knew about illegal private poker games and did not report them to authorities.

Prosecutors said Zajkowski tried to find out if an undercover officer attended a poker game in February, 2014, and he reported information to a co-defendant, 50-year-old Brock Wedman of St. Marys.

Zajkowski will be sentenced on August 2nd, and attorneys for both sides have agreed to recommend a year on federal probation.  Wedman also pleaded guilty this week, and his sentencing is scheduled for August 1st with a recommendation for a year of probation.

The two men were among several arrested in an FBI investigation of illegal gambling in Wichita.
