Buildings evacuated due to gas leak in Old Town

A gas leak in Old Town led to evacuations Friday morning, but officials on scene said there were no injuries.

Wichita fire marshal Stuart Bevis said a construction crew working on the street had ruptured a two-inch gas line.   Firefighters created a safety area and evacuated buildings around the site at 2nd and Mead after the break was reported around 10 a.m.

Crews were out testing the area for safety and people were allowed to return to the buildings after the leak was isolated and shut down.    KGS teams remained at the scene to repair the line break.
