Home health care worker sentenced to probation for theft

A home health care worker has been sentenced to 5 years probation for stealing from elderly clients.

33-year-old Dawn Becker, who now lives in Reno County, was convicted of two counts of mistreatment of an elderly person, two felony thefts, and other financial crimes in Sedgwick County District Court.  The crimes took place while Becker was working for 3 home health companies from August of 2017 to April of 2018 involving four victims.

Becker was accused of taken property that included jewelry, and bank cards from clients homes.  She told that court that she was having financial difficulties and pawned the stolen items and used the cards to get money.

She will have to spend over 8 years in prison if she violates the terms of her probation.  Becker must also pay $89,000 in restitution to her victims.

The probation could be extended up to five additional years until restitution is fully paid.  As a condtion of her probation, Becker is barred from working as a health care worker in a private residence or nursing facility.
