Boil water advisory lifted for Wellington

Update on May 11 at 4:19 p.m.:

The boil water advisory is now lifted for Wellington in Sumner County, according to the KDHE. Laboratory samples collected from the city of Wellington indicate no evidence of contamination at this time. KDHE deems all issues surrounding the boil water advisory from Friday, May 10 to now be resolved.

Original story:

A boil water advisory is in effect for Wellington in Sumner County.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment encourages anyone who lives in Wellington to boil water for one minute before drinking it or using it to cook. You’re also encouraged to dispose of ice cubes and to avoid using ice from an automatic ice maker. Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled.

A line break led to a loss of pressure in Wellington’s water system, which can lead to bacterial contamination.

That makes three boil advisories for the region: In Wellington, Augusta, and Sedgwick County Rural Water District Three.

Wellington USD 353 canceled school Friday due to the boil advisory.
