Female Principal Awarded Equal Pay Settlement

A Kansas School District agreed to pay female principal Julie Rosenquist $11,250 after she was paid less than both the man she replaced and the man who succeeded her. Rosenquist was hired to be the principal of both Gridley Elementary and Southern Coffey County Middle School in 2015, and was paid $5,000 less than her male predecessor. In 2017, when she left the position, her male replacement was given the same salary as her predecessor. The lawsuit was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,  who are responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
