Wichita man sentenced in fatal 2017 shooting

A Wichita man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for a fatal shooting in south Wichita in 2017.

33-year-old Jimmy Suttle, Jr. was sentenced to 288 months during an appearance in Sedgwick County district court.   He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in February and was sentenced to 165 months, but the judge added more time for a probation violation relating to a 2013 forgery case, a 2015 methamphetamine possession case and an aggravated battery incident from 2015.  The underlying sentences in those cases brought the total sentence to 288 months.

Prosecutors said 52-year-old Leonard Childers was shot and killed on May 14, 2017 outside a home in the 1600 block of South Fern.  The shooting was the result of an argument between Childers and Suttle.
