Star Spangled Salute: Students Help a Veteran to Normandy

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors WWII veterans Jacques Michienzi and George Chall.  Jacques served as an Army Airborne Ranger in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.  George was a combat medic with General George Patton’s Third Army.  There were a lot of stories that came out of Normandy this week, and thanks to 6 North Carolina college students, Jacques and George have a Normandy story too.   The students began planning the fundraiser to get these veterans to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary 5 years ago.  Student Elena Lowinger who made the trip with the veterans said, “The reason why I’m standing here is because these men stood here – 75 years ago, and as a Jewish girl, it’s something I can never say thank you enough for.”  Jacques and George, thank you for your service.
