Kids across Kansas are able to get meals provided each day even though school is out.
Federal grants allow for the Summer Food Service Program that takes care of kids between 1 and 18-years-old. These meals are free and available to areas where free or reduced-cost meals would normally be available during the school year. Groups taking part in the program are reimbursed after tracking how many kids they provide meals to.
Agencies in Kansas served a record 1.42-million meals last year and hope to serve 15-million this year.
