Star Spangled Salute: A Veteran Gets His Purple Heart 75 Years After He Sold It

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors WWII veteran Pvt. William Myack.  William stormed the beaches on D-day and fought his way through France into Germany with the Army’s 4th Infantry Division. In the process he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.  When he returned home, work was hard to find and he had to sell his Purple Heart for food.  75 years later, his sister received a new Purple Heart posthumously on behalf of her brother. William’s sister said, “No soldier should have to do that — sell their medals for food,”.  Agreed.  Thank you William for your service.
