The Toronto Raptors are the NBA champions for the first time in the team’s 24-year history.

The Raptors beat the defending champion Golden State Warriors 114-110 in Game 6 of the NBA Championship.  Former Wichita State Men’s Basketball standout Fred VanVleet help lead the team the victory, scoring 22 points, 5 of them 3 pointers.

Teammate Kyle Lowry had 26 points with 7 rebounds and 10 assists.  Kawhi Leonard scored 22 for the Raptors as well.

Klay Thompson with Golden State scored 30 points, but left early due to a knee injury.  Steph Curry scored 21 points for the Golden State, but was 6 for 17 and just 3 of 11 from the three point line.

The Warriors were also without Kevin Durant who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and underwent surgery Wednesday.

VanVleet is just the 4th Shocker to go on to win an NBA title.  He was undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft before he joined the NBA Summer League with the Toronto Raptors.
