Topeka Native, Gary Woodland wins US Open

Topeka Native, Gary Woodland won the 119th U.S. Open, despite a push from 2-time defending champion, Brooks Koepka.  Woodland won by 3-strokes.

It’s Woodland’s first major championship.

A former KU golfer, Woodland lead on Friday and held onto the lead after the 3rd round on Saturday.

At the start of the last round, Woodland had a 1-stroke lead over Justin Rose and a 4-stroke lead over Koepka.

Before winning the U.S. Open, Woodland had only finished tied for 23rd.
