The outdoor tornado sirens were accidently triggered, early Sunday morning, around 4:45am. It was not a malfunction.

Sedgwick County officials say a dispatcher thought the threat was for Sedgwick County, when the threat was actually for Sumner County.  The sirens for the whole county were activated for about 30 seconds before they were shut down.

15 minutes later, the appropriate sirens were activated for the tornado warning(s) in the Derby area.

Kate Flavin, with Segwick County, said “We apologize for any confusion this may have caused this morning; there were no system malfunctions and sirens activated as designed.”
