A truck with a trailer drove off the turnpike in a deadly crash overnight in south Wichita, and the driver who died has now been identified.

A pickup was reportedly southbound on Interstate 35 at around 1 a.m. Friday, when it went off the road near MacArthur. The truck went into a ditch and through a fence, before it slammed into trees near Emery Park and burst into flames.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the driver, 39-year-old Jose Elco Vasquez, died. A nine-year-old girl who was a passenger was taken to a hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.
