Sedgwick County Emergency Management is working with first responders in Wichita for a training exercise.

Multiple agencies including Wichita’s Fire Department, police, the Sheriff’s Office, and county EMS, will be practicing for a hazardous chemical spill. This taking place in the 13th and Broadway area on Thursday, July 18. You will see a lot of emergency crews between 8 and 11 a.m., so don’t be alarmed if you’re in the area.

This training gives multiple agencies a chance to work together to find out what they do well and what needs to be improved on. Thursday’s event focuses on improving decision making, coordination, and integration during a hazmat response.

Similar drills have been held in the past, including a mass casualty drill at the Eisenhower Airport.
