Fall Gardening Series Returns to Wichita Public Library

The Wichita Public Library will once again partner with the Sedgwick County Extension Horticulture and Master Gardener Volunteer Program to offer its fall gardening series at the Alford and Westlink branches. All classes are from 6-7:30 p.m. and are free, but registration is required. Contact the branch library you’d like to attend, or visitwww.wichitalibrary.org/gardening to register.

  • A Whirlwind Look at Kansas Grasses Tuesday, July 30 (Alford); Thursday, Aug. 1 (Westlink) Learn the use of native and ornamental grasses in Kansas landscape and how to combine these grasses with other native and non-native plants.
  • Attracting Polinators and Other Beneficial Insects to Your Garden Tuesday, Aug. 6 (Alford); Thursday, Aug. 8 (Westlink) Learn the importance of tiny insects that live in your garden, and how gardens can be sanctuaries for butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects.
  • Soil: the “Dirty” Little Secret to Successful Gardening Tuesday, Aug. 13 (Alford); Thursday, Aug. 15 (Westlink) Soil holds many secrets to a successful, beautiful garden. Learn about the benefits of healthy soil in your garden and why it’s the most important thing you should consider.
  • Xeriscaping – Creating Beautiful, Low-Maintenance Gardens Using Less Water Tuesday, Aug. 20 (Alford); Thursday, Aug. 22 (Westlink) Don’t break the bank on your water bill – learn how to create low-maintenance, drought-tolerant landscapes.
  • Fall Lawn Care – Tips for Growing the Best Lawns on the Block Tuesday, Aug. 27 (Alford); Thursday, Aug. 29 (Westlink) Learn what you need to do in the fall to ensure a healthy and green lawn in the summer.
