A man who was shot by a Wichita police officer in a confrontation over a week ago has now been released from a hospital and booked into jail.

The 26-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and violating a protection-from-abuse order.  He is being held on a bond of $100,000.

He is facing charges for a July 14th confrontation with police who were called to a domestic disturbance at a home near 51st Street North and Meridian.   Police said the man had raised his arms toward officers and that’s when an officer fired shots.   The man turned out to be holding a pouch with a metal buckle.

The officer who fired the shots has been on administrative leave while an investigation continues.
