NatGeo Adventurer of the Year to speak at Wichita Public Library

The Wichita Public Library will host athlete, author, speaker and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Jennifer Pharr Davis, from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. 2nd St.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event will include a members-only reception with a special author meet-and-greet from 4:30-6 p.m., a presentation and author talk for the public from 6-7 p.m., and a book signing from 7-7:30 p.m. Watermark Books will sell copies of Davis’ book at the event.

Davis will share slides and stories, answer questions and sign copies of her new book, The Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record Breaking Power of Strength and Resilience, which Kirkus Reviews calls “a captivating narrative guidebook that will inspire readers to test their own limits, on the trail and off.” She will discuss the secrets of accomplished record setters, define the building blocks of endurance and use them to lay a foundation to motivate the audience to go farther and do more than they previously thought possible.

She has logged more than 14,000 miles of long distance trails on six different continents. In 2011, she set the overall fastest known time on the Appalachian Trail by hiking 47 miles a day for 46 straight days.
