City of Wichita offers FREE back-to-school services

City of Wichita offers FREE back-to-school services

Kids Connection Camp:

Kids Connection Camp will be held on the seven in-service days scheduled this year from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for children ages 6-12. The cost is $22 per child, per day and the DCF Vision Card is accepted.

Free after-school programs:

If you need an after school program for your kids, the City of Wichita has you covered. Starting this week, free after-school programs are running for kids ages 6 to 13. The program starts Wednesday and hours are 3:30 to 5:30 Monday through Thursday. Fridays, they close earlier at 5:00.

Wichita Transit offering free rides all week:

Since schools return to session this week, you can enjoy free rides on Wichita Transit all week. Free Ride Week is underway through Friday. New schedules have begun with most routes moving to a 45-minute frequency.

This year, Wichita Public Schools is assigning 800 students to bus routes instead of traditional school buses.

Computer Checkout:

Students who need a computer this school year can now check out a Chromebook from a portable device dispense at the Advanced Learning Library. Customers with a library card in good standing can check out a Chromebook once per day for up to three hours at a time. The computer can only be used inside the library.

Learning Express Library

Wichita’s libraries have several online resources to help students strengthen their knowledge in various subjects or to help in test prep. The Learning Express Library — which is an online database of e-books, tests, learning tools, and articles — can help students prepare for the following:

  • College admission tests such as the ACT and SAT
  • AP tests
  • Skills improvement in general education subjects such as math, science, and social studies
