The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated a plane crash that killed a cropduster near Hays.
Troopers say the pilot, 70-year-old John Werth, took off from his private runway in a 1984 bi-wing spray plane around 9:15 a.m. and crashed a short time later near the intersection of 240th Avenue and Smoky Hill River Road. Werth died at the scene.
The FAA will take over the investigation into the crash
