A Wichita woman has been charged with felony first degree murder for the death of her two-year-old son.

23-year-old Kimberly Compass made her first appearance in Sedgwick County district court on Tuesday.   Her bond was set at $500,000 and a date of September 5th was scheduled for attorneys to meet with a judge and determine the next steps in the case, including a preliminary hearing date.

Compass was arrested on August 15th after an investigation by Wichita police.  Her son, Zayden Jaynesahkluah, was found dead on May 31st at the Sunset Motel in the 2300 block of North Broadway.    EMS crews were sent to the motel on a report of a child not breathing, and Jaynesahkluah was pronounced dead at the scene.
