Elmer Childress show to end on Classic Country 1070 after 56 years

Sunday, August 25th, marks the final airing of the Elmer Childress Show on SummitMedia’s Classic Country 1070. Elmer’s half hour presentation of Southern Gospel music has been a feature on the station since 1963, showcasing the great gospel groups of the past and present, including selections from the many albums Elmer, his wife June, and their daughters recorded over the years.

Elmer began performing with gospel groups at the age of twelve, later traveling and recording with top acts like the Stamps Quartet. After moving to Wichita, he and his family performed regularly on TV and radio, as well as traveling up to 55,000 miles a year to concert events around the Midwest.

As Elmer gets ready to celebrate his 90th birthday in December, we want to celebrate him and thank him for his decades of entertaining and inspiring our listeners. If you would care to express your good wishes, we would be glad to pass them along. You can send them to Classic Country 1070, 4200 N. Old Lawrence Rd, Wichita KS, 67219, Atten: Scott Piper.
