Former Sedgwick County commissioner Tim Norton has been named as the new executive director of the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita.

Norton served as the mayor of Haysville and then held office as the District 2 county commissioner for 16 years.  He was named as the Admiral Windwagon Smith for the Wichita River Festival in 2018.

In a press release issued Friday, Norton said  “You can’t live in Wichita and not have a real appreciation for the history of aviation in our community and the impact it has had on families, the economy and sense of civic pride it has had for generations. North Carolina may have been the birthplace of flight but it grew up and was raised in Kansas.  I am excited to be involved in creating a world-class institution that showcases the people, the companies, the workers and the community that earned the title ‘Air Capital of the World.”

The museum is housed in Wichita’s first airport terminal at 3350 South George Washington Boulevard.
